Out & About …

… on the North York Moors, or wherever I happen to be.

Who was Jim?

Jim’s Fold, on the Eastern Fells below Calfhow Pike and overlooking St. John’s in the Vale.

This was used as checkpoint on this year’s Lake District Mountain Trial. Taken on Saturday, the day before the event, when the fold was occupied by two wild fell ponies and their foals.

But the question remains — just who was Jim?

Thanks to Alan who answered via FaceBook:

Jim and his wife lived down in St John’s Vale. He used to cut peat from near the fold and his wife used to sledge it down “Jim’s wife’s rake to St john’s Vale. The rake can be clearly sean from the end of the Old Coach road.
