For Herr and Fru Munch who would, in 1863, have been celebrating the birth of their first son, Edvard, who would in his time become Norway’s most famous painter; for Frank ‘old blue eyes’ Sinatra, who, in 1992, would have been celebrating his 77th birthday; and for Princess Anne who, on the same day, would be marrying Commander Timothy Laurence at the small parish church in Crathie, the Church of Scotland being the only church to allow divorcees to remarry. And on this day 25 years ago a couple of runners were also tying the knot: in Guisborough Register Office, after which the bride and groom and running guests proceeded to Cringle Moor to hunt a bottle of bubbly hidden in the heather. The day finished with a ceilidh at the Jet Miners in Great Broughton.
Almost forgot, lost in my silver memories, today’s photo: the much photographed tree on Roseberry Common col but looking east towards Little Roseberry, absolutely no connection to the history of this day. Just blue skies and snow. Magic.
