St Abb’s Head

This is St Abb’s Head, a rugged headland in the Scottish Borders, renowned for its bustling seabird sanctuary, boasting a population of over 60,000 winged residents. Among its craggy stacks, guillemots and razorbills establish their nests, while the majestic kittiwakes favour the towering cliff faces.

Yet, amidst this natural spectacle, I later discovered a historical gem — that rocky promontory I happen to photograph is the very spot where St. Aebbe traditionally laid the foundations of a 7th-century nunnery. However excavations in 1980, suggest not at an ecclesiastical building, but rather a defended late medieval hall, shrouding the headland in mystery1https://canmore.org.uk/site/60174/st-abbs-head-st-abbs-nunnery.
