Roseberry Romp

Runners negotiating the rocks on Roseberry summit in the annual Roseberry Romp, a 5 mile race involving 320m of climb. The race is organised by the National Trust and generally follows paths around the perimeter of the property including a climb up to the summit. Roseberry Topping is owned by the National Trust.

The 320m hill is the venue for several races throughout the year, some short dashes to the summit, others of much longer distances. A local newspaper reported on a race in the 1950s and no doubt ever since there’s been an inn in Newton-under-Roseberry there have been bets made after a few beers in as to who can climb to the top the fastest.
