Out & About …

Willow hedging

I spotted this newly layered willow hedge this morning and was quite impressed.

I thought willow hedging was mainly ornamental or perhaps useful in boggy ground so it’s surprising to see it used as a field boundary.

I guess the hedge is only partially complete and the long ‘poles‘ will be laid sideways and interweaved.

Grants are available to plant new hedges under the Countryside Stewardship scheme1Rural Payments Agency (2015). BN11: Planting new hedges. [online] GOV.UK. Available at: https://www.gov.uk/countryside-stewardship-grants/planting-new-hedges-bn11 [Accessed 27 Jan. 2022]..
