Out & About …

… on the North York Moors, or wherever I happen to be.

Roseberry Topping

A familiar fallback

I haven’t ventured far today. Working with the National Trust in Newton Wood on various odd jobs: clearing leaves from the paths and cutting down sycamore saplings. Newton Wood in north-facing so mostly in the shade. I did manage to snatch this shot of the Topping and the Summer-house on the walk home.

I did come across a new word today ‘boondoggle’. It’s an American word that was originally used in scouting but after appearing in a 1935 an article in The New York Times came to mean a “project that is considered a waste of both time and money, yet is often continued due to extraneous policy or political motivations“.

But for the life of me, I can’t think of any current politically motivated, entirely unnecessary, expensive, and wasteful undertakings. Can you?
