About a mile south of the distributed settlement of Smirisary near Glenuig. Along a very rugged but well-defined path. Port Achadh an Aonaich is at the path’s end and known locally as “White Sands”.
Smirisary is a fascinating place. Most of the old cottages have been renovated and made into holiday homes but with no access apart from a steep narrow path. I can not see how even a quad bike could get in. And with no shore or harbour as such although I guess a boat could be beached at high tide, bringing in building materials must be quite a challenge.
And with no land suitable for the growing of crops, it begs the question as to how did the folk who once lived permanently in Smirisary sustain a living?
