Lonsdale Slack

The dog found a new pool in Lonsdale. A welcome relief for a black dog from the morning’s sun.

Well, three pools actually, in Lonsdale Slack, a tributary of the River Leven. Presumably created as a wildlife habitat. Forestry felling work is ongoing so it’s pleasing that time and money have gone into this project. Should be good when nature has softened the banks.

Judging by the ring of spreading ripples just ahead I would suggest that some encouragement was offered!

I think these pools are being created, in part, to provide settlement for sediment and improve water quality downstream. Similar efforts were carried out near the bottom of the Incline when the area was clear felled by creating ponds with leaky dams.
