A walk from Osmotherley to Boltby along Hambleton Street, the old Drovers’ Road. A rather dull afternoon with failing light and a bit of drizzle. This is taken from the Drover’s Road looking down along Nab Ridge onto the village of Kepwick. Just beyond Kepwick and slightly to the right is Howe Hill, which, although it only has a prominence of only 30 metres, is a glacial outlier like its larger siblings, Roseberry Topping, Whorl Hill and Freeborough.
Today’s completely irrelevant word is ‘mimophant‘. Coined by the Hungarian author and journalist Arthur Koestler to describe Bobby Fischer, the chess champion:
“A mimophant is a hybrid species: a cross between a mimosa and an elephant. A member of this species is sensitive like a mimosa where his own feelings are concerned and thick-skinned like an elephant trampling over the feelings of others.”
Now I can’t think of anyone that it could apply to.
