A view that never fails to fascinate me, especially on such a glorious day. Wasdale Head, an oasis of lush, higgledy-piggledy fields. No design went into them.
I am above Stirrup Crag on Yewbarrow. Everything is much greener and wetter than when I was last on these fells in June. Wastwater must be at least two feet higher.
Watering Wasdale is Lingmell Beck having risen just below Styhead Pass. Flowing in from the left below to join it is Mosedale Beck. Leaving the dale alongside Lingmell Beck is Moses Trod, an ancient packhorse route across the fells.
Of the fells, Lingmell is right of centre with the Scafells behind separated by the high pass, Mickledore. Great Gable is far left, behind the HIghnose Head ridge of Kirk Fell. A convex slope where a climber will never see the summit until the final few metres; not for the faint-hearted.
