Glaisdale Moor is scattered with standing stones.
Most mark parish boundaries and tracks
and are of dressed stone indicating
a probable 17th-century date.
In Glaisdale Swang, a boggy hollow
draining north into Busco Beck,
stands an isolated menhir which looks much older
but has been largely ignored by antiquarians.

A lovely picture of probably my favourite moorland standing stone Mick. There’s an interesting mark carved into it, a letter ‘H’ on its side. White noted a couple of similar marks around Baysdale, one near the Cheese Stone & another at Middle Head. I’d be interested to know if you come across any others on your travels.
I don’t get over to that side of the Moors much but I’ll keep my eyes open.
