Out & About …

… on the North York Moors, or wherever I happen to be.

Ingleby Moor

On the Cleveland Way snaking across Ingleby Moor. The route follows the dusty tedious landrover track hugging the escarpment with Roseberry Topping never getting any closer. Cast your eyes away from the glorious views of the Tees Valley and every so often a gulley running parallel to the track might be discerned, evidence of Thurkilsti, the ancient route across the moors. First mentioned in a grant of land to Rievaulx Abbey in 1145, Thurkill’s hill road can be traced in today’s footpaths and access tracks crossing the moors to Kirbymoorside on its way from Stokesley.
