Siberia

Greenhow Botton, often known as Midnight Corner. Felling has opened up new views. Not such a gloomy place. And somewhere in the cleared forest stood the temporary construction camp for the Ingleby Manor ironstone mine. It was named as Siberia and later reused for construction workers of the railway incline to Rosedale.

The ruins and foundations of the buildings still exist in trees near the old scout camp at NGR NZ 60066 02752. The square building shown on old maps is a pile of stones and the narrow right angled building on the maps can be discerned as foundations under the needle litter.

Thanks, John. I picked up grid reference when comparing the overlay with the old map and Google Earth. It’s on my to do list.

There is also the odd bit of broken cast iron fire back among the ruins.

I find http://www.old-maps.co.uk useful to get a NGR from an old map. Get the map up then click on the point of interest and the NGR appears in the URL at the top of the screen. Not as good as the NLS site if you need to zoom on detail but useful nevertheless.
